Anna Maria Stanhope, The Duchess of Bedford, is credited with the creation of afternoon tea to tide her over during the long gap between meals. It seems fitting that the city of Bedford, Virginia has an establishment creating delightful treats fit for a queen including biscotti, croissants, muffins, pastries, coffee cakes, breads, cheesecakes and even sheet cakes. They offer a special holiday bakery menu too.

The Duchess of Bedford Bakery & Cafe' offers breakfast, brunch, lunch and Afternoon Tea by reservation.

My daughter and I had a terrific lunch complete with homemade soup, salad, delicious sandwiches and a mini dessert muffin. The menu features Boar's Head meats and cheeses and lunch specials with quiche, homemade soups, sandwiches and subs. A pot of tea and cafe mocha and we were happy girls!

You don't have to go home empty handed; along with baked goods, Duchess of Bedford has a lovely assortment of crystal teapot charms, stationery, Willow Tree and other gifts. If you're out and about, on your way to the Peaks of Otter or one of the many wineries in Bedford County, take a detour and visit the Duchess of Bedford.
Duchess of Bedford Bakery and Cafe' is located just off Main Street at 405 Crenshaw Street in Bedford, Virginia.

Debbie, what a fun place. My daughter and I just had that kind of Mom/Daughter lunch at a similar place in Tomball called The Whistle Stop. I guess I should write on it sometime. We went there on a Saturday for lunch and it was full of women. I think I saw two men in the entire place. I decided at that point it would not be a good place to take my husband. This sounds like that same kind of a place.
Marchel, Megan and I have a 'pinky promise' that we'll do lunch at least once a week when she starts college and I know she's going to want to go here. You should write about your special place too! Thanks for commenting.
Debbie, don't you know that it is not nice to tempt my tummy with the taste of nuts and honey?
LOL! Danny, we stayed away from the clotted cream but those scones, they were the best we've had since England!
Scones, oh, now you are tempting my tummy. My favorite desert is anything with Beverian Cream in it. I love it.

Helps if I log in
Danny, these scones are so good, Meg had one with blueberries and I had one with cranberries. Steve was treated to a chocolate croissant. We can't go there too often!
Debbie, it would make my hips explode. But I made a peach cobbler yesterday that would make you melt.
Danny, just another example, I told you, Renaissance Man, there is nothing you can't do! I love peach cobbler. I have an easy recipe a neighbor gave me years ago, it's one of my husband's favorites.
Debbie, nice ThemThem to Duchess of Bedford, looks good enough to eat, nice presentation and neat looking building.
Debbie, if you were closer, I would tell you to come over with your hubby and kids and I would make your mouth water with the taste of my home made chilli, or Respberry chiptole chicken, or lasagna, or tuna steak, or sushi, or ratatouille. just take your pick. And then for desert we can have a home made peach cobbler or some sugar cookies, or some double fudge carmel swirl brownies.
Danny, you know we would be there, I've read all of your recipe posts! I'm going to be eating Lean Cuisine for a while though....LOL!
Debbie, fro your picture, you look small enough that you probably have to run around in the rain just to get wet.
LOL! Danny, that would be the magic of the internet! Thank you though!!!
Yeah, well, that is something that no one can claim on me for sure.
LOL! We love you just the way you are!
so, you never told me what you think of the new picture. Also, how much fatter am I going to be when I go to Virginia to meet my new clients?
Hey, I did comment on it when I asked if that was a lake in Knoxville.....(Knoxville, Jamaica,LOL!). I like the new summer look!!!
This is true my fair one. Lately, I have not been to inspired to cook. I guess with my birthday closing in I expect everyone else too.
Debbie - what a delightful looking place and the food looks scrumptious.
Kathy, the food is delicious. Home baked oatmeal bread and the muffins, just wonderful!
The Duchess of Bedford looks delightful! What a fun place to have lunch and bring home some goodies for later! I love places like this...
Kim, that's exactly what we did!LOL!! I can't wait to go back and try something new.
Wow! Debbie that looks like an awesome place. Just not so wonderful for my hips. Nice job
Pat, I don't think it's low-cal, but it's yummy! Could be a RE/MAX field trip destination......
What a fun place. I like how you add the community highlights to your blog. I need to step out and do that more. It looks like a cozy place too - If I was closer, I'd sure want to go!
