Johnson's Orchards and Peaks of Otter Winery is a family owned and operated business. The current farm was established in 1919. The Johnson family have been in Bedford, Virginia since the 1700's.

I stopped in recently and had a pleasant visit with Shannon Johnson- he is a hoot! They have been producing 25 different fruit wines since 1995. We had a wine tasting in their lovely shop and brought several bottles home. Peaks of Otter has won numerous awards for their various wines and will host the Bedford Wine Festival in July.

The farm is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and at the foot of the Peaks Of Otter. (The family owned Sharp Top Mountain til the 1970's - when they were advised it would be a good business decision to sell it). The farm consists of over 200 acres planted with approximately 7500 apple trees; almost 200 different varieties. They developed the ‘Gold Nugget' in honor of the Beale Treasure. Apple picking is an annual event in our family and we love to go to Johnson's in September.

The Orchard and Winery are located approximately 8 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 7 miles from the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford.

Debbie ~ You just keping adding to the list of reasons that I need to plan a family vacation to Virginia.

I had a client who lived up in the North Georgia mountains when I sold their home here.  At closing they brought me some wine from  a little local winery.  Great stuff.

Your fantastic at this local stuff.  I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know your area through you.

Hey! Yes, this is true, you really are going to turn 21 whether I like it or not, aren't you? LOL! Yes, Johnny is still there, I don't know why I didn't take a picture of him. Guess I'll have to take another trip!

I think that is another Malone voice added to the chorus of Rainers! This, and so many of your posts, really does give one a sense of your area. You shine as the local expert. I love wine and remember apple picking as a very young child with my family in Wisconsin! Great memories and great fun! BTW, oh to be 21 again!

LOL! Rich, yes, this is my college junior, Kat. I'm glad she's starting to get involved here. I didn't realize you grew up in Wisconsin. That's one state I haven't been to yet. I think I remember 21, it was a looong time ago!LOL! Thanks for commenting.

I spent only three years in Wisconsin from age three to six. I actually went to kindergarten their but I was actually raised in Memphis, Tennessee. One of my brothers was born in Appleton, Wisconsin! I used to have lots of family in western Mass so I spent many a summer months there. Most of my Mass relatives have migrated to Florida now! I have family in Indiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee too! We are everywhere...like kudzu but prettier...LOL!

LOL! Kudzu has is charm! My family is still in New England, they don't have the travel bug that I have, or that I passed on to my kids.

Hi Debbie, That looks like a fabulous vineyard/winery. I have enjoyed wine (sometimes too much) for many years, and a trip to Napa last year expanded my appreciation beyond belief. The vineyards are beautiful, the wineries are remarkable, the food is exceptional, and the makers/servers/owners are characters... My kind of fun!

Bo, mine too! This is in a beautiful setting at the foot of the mountains. The apples are great too, it's a favorite for apple picking

Jo, it really is. Bedford county is large and predominately rural. Blue Ridge Mountains all around, it's very beautiful.

Following my investigation, thousands of persons in the world get the loan from good banks. Thus, there is great possibilities to find a collateral loan in every country.
