Hickory Hill Winery - Winter Whites Open House - Smith Mountain Lake - Virginia

Hickory Hill Vineyards, Smith Mountain Lake

The winter is a quieter time at Smith Mountain Lake. If you've seen the movie What About Bob?, you've already been introduced to a lake in Central Virginia and know how beautiful it is. We don't see as many boaters or visitors to the state park this time of year and some businesses do close down.

One business that is open year round is Hickory Hill Winery. Located in the town of Moneta (in Bedford County), Hickory Hill Winery produces a variety of wines and they will be holding a special event February 16-17 their Winter Whites Open House - 11:00am to 5:00pm.   All white wines will be on sale, coffee and hot chocolate will be available to warm you up on the inside. Or you can brave the chill outside and see what grapevine pruning is all about. If you'll be in the area, stop by.

Debbie I love winerys they are so much fun to tour.  The lake is awesome.  Makes me want to climb into a hammock and read a good book.

Linda, there are so many small wineries in Central Virginia and it's nice to stop in on a weekend to sample their wines. I love the lake, it's so peaceful. Thanks for commenting.

This seems like a great local attraction. Nothing like a good glass of wine. I visited the website from the link you provided and it looks very serene. Is that the actual lake where they filmed What About Bob?

Hi Rich, yes it is. We were out in the boat this past summer and found "Bob's" house. The area isn't as developed as Lake Winnipesaukee, there's not as much to do, but SML has only existed since the sixties. People have been going to Winnipesaukee for a long time.

Debbie, thanks for the awesome poet. It is truly a beautiful lake, and I love white wine.

Hey Danny, I love this lake. Less than an hour from my house and a nice refuge. I'm looking forward to the open house at the winery!

Debbie -- I miss the wineries in California -- I haven't found any yet in Nashua!  The pictures of the lake are so beautiful.  Hope you enjoy the wine tasting - you will have to have one for me.

I live in vinyard country here as well, with many wineries and world class wines - but we don't have 'What About Bob?'! That was a terrific movie with great cottage country scenery!
