I was lucky enough to be invited to tea at The Ploughcroft Tea Room on their Grand Opening day, December 11th, 2010. The Tea Room is located in one of the historic buildings on Commerce Street that has been totally renovated. Singers from The Victorian Society at Liberty University performed Christmas songs, there were readings from Charles Dickens Christmas Story and several vocal performances.
We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon cream tea with tasty scones in a beautiful English setting. I've been to the tea room for lunch and highly recommend the Cornish Pasty and the Fruit Crumble with English Custard AND reservations. The tea room is already a popular destination and it fills up fast. Conveniently located across from Estate Specialists.
Address: 1215 Commerce St. Phone:(434) 832-7467 Website:http://www.ploughcrofttearoom.com Hours:11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday (afternoon tea served from 2 to 5 p.m.)
Price range: Lunch runs from $6.50 (soup du jour) to $9.50 (chicken and mushroom pie or the Ploughman’s Lunch) and tea from $3.50 (a pot of tea for one) to $21 (a Victorian Afternoon Cream Tea, which includes an end-less pot of tea, two homemade scones and your choice of sandwiches and sweet treats); sandwiches and other home-made items can also be purchased a la carte.
One of the wonderful things about this time of year is the old fashioned Christmas Parade held in historic downtown Lynchburg, Virginia. The 50th Annual Christmas Parade took place on a snowy night in December and featured over 80 entries- floats representing various clubs, groups and organizations, marching bands, antique cars and much more. One group I'm involved with is The Seven Hills Jeep Club and this was their entry:
Interested in off-roading? Whether you like to crawl over rocks or own a stock jeep, there's room for drivers of all skill levels. The group gets together for monthly trips, meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month at the building next to the Harley Dealership on Timberlake Rd, Lynchburg VA.

Red Shirt Friday is one way ordinary Americans can show unity and support for the military personnel who have served or are currently serving our country. Soldiers have sacrificed their personal freedom, safety, comfort, time with their families and many have given their lives so we might enjoy ours.
Take the opportunity at the mall, the grocery store or at the airport and say thank you to a soldier.
The Soldier: - By Charles M. Province
It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. If you can read this message thank a teacher, If you are reading it in English of your own free will THANK A SOLDIER! It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag. To all the brave men and women who have dedicated or given their lives to protect this country and its freedoms: Thank you.
Wear Red on Friday and show your Support for our Troops locally at Monument Terrace every Friday at noon with Red Shirt Friday

Wondering if there's anything to do in Downtown Lynchburg? We spent another fun evening at The Grand Ballroom in Lynchburg on Friday night. The Steve Freeman Band played starting at 7pm. The crowd enjoyed great food and dancing to great music:
If you'd like to enjoy an evening out at The Grand BallroomYOU’LL HAVE TO HURRY.
The Grand Ballroom is booked solid in April for wedding receptions and graduations so these Friday night events are limited. The Grand can accommodate over 300 people and include food, entertainment and transportation services. They offer complete special event and wedding packages with personalized services.
I've been receiving a lot of calls regarding SALSA NIGHTS in Lynchburg, so here is an update:
LET’S MAKE THE BIGGEST GROUP DANCE IN THE HISTORY OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA!
This is the LAST Salsa event before Spring Break
Salsa Nights – CASINO STYLE (1 Night Only)
What is Casino Style Salsa?
Casino Style is also known as “Rueda.” The word “Rueda” means "wheel" in Spanish so "Casino Rueda" is danced in a wheel using salsa moves. Folks form a circle and go through dance patterns that involve switching partners.
I was invited to join the Lynchburg Jazz group on facebook where they've created a dinner event in downtown Lynchburg. Every Friday between 7-11pm- you can enjoy dinner and live music in The Grand Ballroom (Your Jazz & Blues place! Live artists every Friday night. Flavorful homestyle meals with refreshing wines and beers) . My husband and I decided we had to check it out this past Friday night. The Grand Ballroom is located at 742 Commerce Street in Downtown Lynchburg.
The Grand Ballroom is a venue for wedding receptions. They also host reunions, graduations, social events and corporate events.
This building is a great example of the restoration efforts in downtown Lynchburg. The Grand Ballroom’s interior columns are decorated with white lights, and the tables were dressed in white tablecloths with large hurricane candles. The interior is beautiful and elegant, with high ceilings and a gorgeous center staircase.
For $25 (A COUPLE), we were treated to a delicious buffet dinner consisting of BBQ Chicken, Ham, two side veggies, potato salad and rolls (feel free to go back to the buffet too!) and dessert. There is a bar available for soft drinks, wine and beer.
The live music started at 7pm and was provided by Splaaat. They were excellent and played a variety of jazz and blues. The low lighting and candlelight provided the perfect atmosphere; it was wonderful (and accounts for my dim photo's).
